Design Breakdown: Feminine Living Room

I love the feminine simplicity of this funky, yet elegant living space. My favorite thing to do when designing a room is to mix pieces from different eras together, and this living room makes this sometimes tricky practice look effortless.[show_ms_widget id="35950867" image_id="41800416" width="650" height="894"] | Mouse Over the Picture Above For Details | [show_shopthepost_widget id="1951196"] A Room of Contrast The funky zebra print rug perfectly offsets the traditional elements in the space, and the sleek glass coffee table nicely contrasts with the heavier, more traditional looking furniture. The other decorative elements in the room such as the female bust on the mantle and the cluster of white taper candles on the accent table are soft and romantic while the dark chairs and rug are bolder in nature. 3 Things I Learned From Tinder

So chances are that if you are a twenty something in this day and age, you have heard of the popular dating app Tinder. If you by some odd chance haven't, Tinder is an app that let's you "speed date" through a series of matches provided for you based on your location and preferences. You can only see who matches with you if you "like" them as well. This prevents creepy strangers from harassing you via direct message. Tinder? Erm - Sure I Guess I started using the app a few months after a break up to get back onto the dating scene. I was a relatively late (and skeptical) adopter, and at that point, had heard several Tinder stories that weren't exactly "promising" in the find-your-soulmate department. However, I pressed on in…

Book List 2016

Reading has always been such an important part of my life. The concept of having an adventure at your fingertips is such a neat thing! I kid you not when I tell you that I have re-read the entire Harry Potter series ten times. This being said, I am so bad about putting reading on the back burner and have really been missing it lately.  This year I really want to focus on carving time out of my day to unwind before bed and read. I have created a massive book list that I want to get and read this year. I love getting new book recommendations from people so I thought that it would be fun to share my book list with ya'll! | Find Her | Lovely Bones | Uglies | Find Her by Lisa…

How To Fall Asleep Quickly (And Stay Asleep)

Sleeping is an essential part of happiness. I don't know about you, but I am a crazy person when I haven't gotten my beauty rest. I take this moment to apologize to anyone that has crossed my path during this volatile time. This being said, learning how to all asleep quickly is a pretty useful skill to have. My sleep pattern seems to ebb and flow pretty often. Sometimes I will be able to pass out as soon as my head hits the pillow and other times I turn into a complete insomniac. Because of my sporadic sleep patterns, I have a few tricks up my sleeve that always help to relax me and help me fall asleep: Drink a Hot Beverage Drink a cup of chamomile tea or a hot beverage like water with lemon…

Spring Outfit Wardrobe Essentials

At every change of the season I find myself standing in front of my closet feeling like I have nothing to wear. Okay, let's be real, I do that basically every day... But especially when we are on the cusp of a new season. I like to use the changing weather as a benchmark to asses the gaps that I have in my wardrobe. I notoriously get distracted with bold prints and statement pieces and end up kicking myself when I don't have enough basic staples to work with. This spring I want to determine what pieces are missing from my wardrobe (in my case basic staples) and fill in the gaps as needed. Having a strong wardrobe foundation allows me to get creative when styling outfits and gives me plenty to work with.…

Weekly Picks (3/30)

Instead of doing a normal Design Find post like I have been doing in the past, I thought that it would be fun to mix it up a little. From here on out I will be doing a weekly post with my favorite design finds as normal, but this time with my favorite fashion picks as well! Woohoo for more excuses to shop. [show_lookbook_widget id="274971"]   I hope that everyone has a lovely week! XOXO.

5 Reasons to Live Alone (At Some Point)

When I graduated high school I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to move into an apartment with my best friend in downtown Dallas. Eighteen years old living downtown? Party time. It was so much fun getting to live with my best friend, but as much as I loved it, I craved a place that was all my own. (Sorry Haley, you know I love you). After living together for two years we decided to get our own respective bachelorette pads. Living alone was truly one of the best decisions that I have made. I have prospered and grown so much faster since I have moved into my own apartment. This has nothing to do with Haley or our friendship, but more so to do with the level of independence that living…

In the Trenches

Anyone that knows me on a personal level knows that I am truly obsessed with coats and jackets. But seriously though this isn't an "Omg I'm obsessed with those earrings obsession." This is a "Marie we are holding an intervention if you buy another blazer" kind of obsession. Hey, the first step to fixing a problem is... buy another trench coat. Wait no, whoops... admitting that you have one? That sounds right. | Gingham Trench Coat | Khaki Trench Coat | Navy Trench Coat | Violet Trench Coat | Striped Trench Coat | Light Blue Trench Coat | One day, I found the perfect khaki trench coat from Brooks Brothers that sparked my love for coats. I love a good winter coat, but my favorite pieces to style and wear are trench coats. These light…

Cold Shoulder

  | Blue Off The Shoulder Blouse (sold out, similar linked), Forever 21 (under $25!) | Glasses, H&M | Pave Bracelet, ILY Couture | Pearl Bracelet, Charming Charlies | White Necklace, Kendra Scott | Pants, Target (they're amazing!), | Purse, Kate Spade (old) | The weather in Texas has been crazy warm this year. We had a 90 degree day yesterday... Seriously? It's March. Texas, go home you're drunk. I have been loving all of the warm sunny days don't get me wrong, but I am a little sad that "winter" is over so quickly. But that means... SPRING SHOPPING! I've been loving the off the shoulder shirt trend this spring and this flouncy blue one is a favorite! I have a larger chest, so unfortunately I have to skip out on certain off the…
