Sarah Vickers: The Queen of Prep. If you haven’t heard of this preppy fashion blogger, you should probably dust yourself off and crawl out from under the rock that you have been living under. Just kidding. But in all seriousness, Sarah Vickers from Classy Girls Wear Pearls is the epitome of New England preppy. Recently married to Kiel James Patrick, Vickers continues to take the fashion world by storm one preppy outfit at a time. Vickers and Kiel James Patrick (KJP) co-founded a successful self entitled jewelry brand that is now carried by Brooks Brothers. The married duo use Classy Girls Wear Pearls to promote their growing company and the New Englander lifestyle that they seem to live and breathe. Vickers documents the various events and trips that the couple attends with stunning photos of lakeside sunsets, polo matches, and lavish picnics topped only by the stunning outfits that she adorns.
What I love about Sarah Vickers’ style is her innate ability to mix classic vintage pieces with bold patterns and current trends. I, like many, have coveted her style for some time now and love to emulate her distinct outfits in my own daily wardrobe. Granted, I don’t have very many polo matches and lavish parties to attend, but I think we can all learn a thing or two from Sarah Vickers and the preppy perfection that is her style.

While I don’t claim to be a Sarah Vickers style expert, I will share some fashion principles and guidelines that will help you recreate Sarah Vickers’ classic style in your own wardrobe.
Find and Utilize Vintage and Thrifted Items
Sarah didn’t always have wads of money to spend on new designer, bags, shoes, and dresses. The couple has acquired an extensive collection of vintage sweaters and clothing pieces from the days of running a thrifting business before their jewelry company was created. I personally love purchasing thrifted sweaters and blazers. Not only are they more than half the price of a new garment, they are unique pieces that really make a statement in my wardrobe. When observing Sarah’s collection of sweaters, one will notice a large selection of chunky cable knits, fair isle prints, and other unique vintage styles. Below is a picture taken of a portion of Sarah’s winter sweater collection.
Use Classic Pieces in New Ways
Sarah Vickers loves to pair classic wardrobe staples with trendier pieces. She paired a pair of floral printed shorts with a bold orange top and a classic navy blue blazer in this summery outfit below.
Get creative and have a little fun! Don’t be afraid to pair a reserved dress with a pair of embellished heels or a large statement necklace.
Don’t Fear Pattern Mixing
Pattern mixing can seem intimidating at first, but when done correctly, can make such a stylish statement. Sarah Vickers loves to mix unexpected patterns together to make a bold statement while still maintaining the conservative nature of her outfit. I mean honestly could this polka dot ensemble get any more fabulous? Nope.
Layer Your Wardrobe Pieces
Sarah Vickers loves to layer sweaters over crisp oxfords and patterned button downs. She typically finishes the look with a statement necklace that rests underneath her collar. I love the feminine touch that the tweed skirt gives this classic look below. The metallic gold heels add a modern touch to this polished ensemble. Don’t limit yourself to the normal application of a clothing piece. Sarah often layers skirts over dresses to create a blouse effect!
Add Classic Touches to Your Wardrobe
Sarah Vickers’ wardrobe just wouldn’t be complete without a healthy dose of bows, monograms, and other classic touches.
Play With Bold Prints
Sarah never runs from a bold print. This large scale striped dress is the perfect summer statement that immediately catches the eye. Notice that when using bold patterns she keeps her other accessories and pieces to a minimum.
Casual But Composed
I seriously question whether or not Sarah owns a pair of yoga pants, or a t-shirt for that matter… I wouldn’t be surprised if she exclusively lounged in matching pajama sets. No tees allowed! Even when she isn’t dressed up, her outfits still convey her preppy New England style that she is notorious for. When dressing casually Sarah typically reaches for jeans, rain boots or loafers, and a casual jacket!
So if this hasn’t convinced you that Sarah Vickers is a preppy goddess yet, then you need to re-read this post! Or read this interesting article written about Kiel James Patrick and Vickers herself in the New York Times style section.
