How To Balance Your Life

How To Balance Your Life (Work, School, Fitness) | Progression By Design

As of late, my schedule has been beyond hectic. Learning to balance school, work, and Progression by Design while attempting to maintain a workout routine has been a giant learning curve. Let me tell you, I am not perfect at it. However, this being said, it is possible balance it all and keep a firm grasp on your sanity!

Perfection: Give it Up

It is a rare thing to accomplish every single thing on your to do list. Perfection, no matter how hard that we strive for it, is unrealistic and unattainable. For example, I have had every intention of writing a blog post everyday in March. Well… it’s March 25th and I have written eight posts not twenty four. It happens. I planned on eating clean and healthy all week, and then I had no time before work so I ate Taco Cabana. It happens. We can’t let our little screw ups throw us off course. So what? I had an entire nacho platter one taco. Life goes on! Don’t lose sight of your goals just because you veered off course for a moment!

Let’s Get Real

I find that the more realistic my goals are, the more confident that I feel during the process of completing them. If I try to take three chapters of notes, do a full hour long workout, work a shift, and then write three blog posts all in one day- well. It’s just not going to happen. Then I get discouraged. How am I supposed to complete everything that I need to get done? Wail! Had I tried to take one chapter of notes, get in a quick cardio session, work a shift and write one blog post, I might have completed it all! Set realistic goals for yourself that you are actually capable of accomplishing! Don’t forget: you aren’t super human, so stop expecting yourself to be.

Get Creative

Sometimes to get everything done you’re going to have to get a little creative. Do I take notes while I eat lunch? Frequently. Do I do calf raises and plie squats while I work sometimes? Yes. While this isn’t necessary everyday, sometimes I need to multi task. As long as you aren’t detracting from your focus on the original activity I don’t see anything wrong with multi tasking in order to complete everything.

Life is hard sometimes, but smile on and keep bobbin and weavin! All of your hard work pays off at the end of the day. Then you get to look back and say “Wow. I did that.” You go girl.

I love the part on being a perfectionist. That is definitely something I struggle with. We have to give ourselves a break once in awhile!

I love these tips, because they’re so practical. It’s so easy to make to-do lists and then beat yourself up when you don’t meet your personal deadlines. Like you said, sometimes you just have to give a few things up and just forgive yourself. None of us are superwoman, and we really do just need to be realistic about the things we’ll be able to accomplish.

What a great reminder! I need to work on letting go of trying to be perfect. It really is a waste of time and only leads to more stress!
