Long Bob Hairstyles and Style Tips

I have had long hair for many years, not including the ever so fashionable bowl hair cut of the late nineties that I sported when I was little (thanks mom). I have experimented with different shades of blonde since then, but have always kept it long. That being said, I want a change. I have been flirting with the idea of getting a long bob, or “lob” for short, for a few months now, and am still super nervous about pulling the trigger on it.

I’m so scared that once I do it I will go through an intense period of mourning for my long hair and instantly regret this drastic decision. But hey – new year new me right? In the spirit of this monumental hair decision I wanted to share my collection of long bob hairstyle inspiration and tips straight from my own hair dresser.

Creating a Natural Look

When creating a natural looking “messy” long bob, put down the blow dryer. Let your hair air dry and scrunch it with texturizing sea spray to create natural looking waves. If that isn’t easy to style, then I don’t know what is. Lazy girls unite! Here are some of my stylist’s favorite sea sprays:

Creating a Polished Long Bob

I love the A-line look of a smooth polished long bob. My favorite part about this hair cut is that you can wear it natural and wavy for a bohemian look, or blown out for a polished, preppier look such as below.

Before following your normal blow out routine, prep your hair with a few drops of hydrating Moroccan oil. Blow out with a round brush as usual for a shiny, sleek hair day. I go into detail about how to achieve a salon quality blow out at home in my post How to Make Your Hair Look Expensive.

Exploring Other Long Bob Styles

I love the deep part on this shorter bob! I’m not sure if this counts as a lob still, but whatever. I’m liking it. I don’t know if I can quite handle bangs, but rocking a deeper part adds a similar dramatic effect.

My natural hair color is similar in color to this, and I am seriously considering doing an ombre effect on it as well as a long bob. I have kind of experimented with the ombre effect before and I really liked it.

Last but not least, I wanted to include a blunt lob in the mix. I don’t know if this is the specific cut for me, but it looks so pretty on Anna Sophia Rob!

So let’s hear it! Which style of long bob is your favorite?
